The Future of Analog IC Technology
DESCRIPTION
The MP4 688 is a h igh voltage input st ep-down
switching regulator to deliver a constant current of
up to 1A to high power LEDs. It integrates a high-
side h igh voltag e power MOSFET w ith a current
limit of 3.2A (typical value). The wide 4.5V to 80V
input range accommodates a variety of step-down
applications, makin g it id eal for au tomotive,
industry a nd gen eral lighting app lications.
Hysteresis curre nt mod e con trol is applied f or
very fas t r esponse, whi ch m akes the 2 0kHz
dimming frequency po ssible. MPS’s pr oprietary
feedback control sch eme minimize s th e number
of e xternal components whi le d elivering a L ED
current with typical ±5% accuracy.
The sw itching frequency is up to 2MHz, th us
allowing f or small comp onent size. The t hermal
shut down, sho rt cir cuit prot ection, a nd optional
output volta ge limitation pr ovide r eliable, f ault
tolerant o perations. A 1 70µA quiescent curre nt
allows its use in battery-powered applications.
The MP468 8 is ava ilable in SOIC 8 an d SOIC 8
with exposed pad packages.
