General Description
The TS5215 series is an efficient linear voltage regulator with ultra low noise output, very low dropout voltage (typically
17mV at light loads and 350mV at 300mA), and very low power consumption (125uA at 100uA), providing high output
current even when the application requires very low dropout voltage. The Chip Enable (CE) includes a CMOS or TTL
compatible input allows the output to be turned off to prolong battery life. When shutdown, power consumption drops
nearly to zero.
The TS5215 series is included a precision voltage reference, error correction circuit, a current limited output driver,
over temperature shutdown, revered battery protection and a reference bypass pin to improve its already excellent
low-noise performance.
The TS5215 series is available in fixed and adjustable output voltage version in SOT-25, SOT-89-5L and SOP-8
package.

Pin Description
TTL/COMS compatible input. Logic high is
enable; logic low or open is shutdown
Unregulated input: +16V maximum supply
Ground: Ground pin and TAB/heatsink are
internally connected.

A 470uF capacitor (Cbypass) connected from
Bypass to Ground quiets this reference

Application Information (continues)
Thermal Characteristics
TS5215 series is designed to provide 300mA of
continuous current in a very small package. Maximum
power dissipation can be calculated based on the
output current and the voltage drop across the part. To
determine the maximum power dissipation of the
package, use the junction-ambient thermal resistance
of the device and the following basic equation:
Pd(max) = [ Tj(max) – Ta ] /Θja
Tj(max) is the maximum junction temperature of the
die(125oC), and Ta is the ambient operating
temperature. Θja is layout dependent, the actual power
dissipation of the regulator circuit can be determined
using the equation:
Pd = ( Vin – Vout ) * Iout + Vin * Ignd
Substituting Pd(max) for Pd and solving for the
operating conditions that are critical to the application
will give the maximum operating conditions for the
regulator circuit. For example, when operating the
TS5215CX533 at room temperature with a minimum
footprint layout, the maximum input voltage for a set
output current can be determined as follows:
Pd(max) = (125oC – 25oC) / 220oC/W
Pd(max) = 455mW
The junction to ambient thermal resistance for the
minimum footprint is 220oC/W, the maximum power
dissipation must not be exceeded for proper operation.
Using the output voltage of 3.3V and an output current
of 300mA, the maximum input voltage can be
determined. Form the electrical characteristics table,
the maximum ground current for 300mA output current
is 2.5mA.
445mW = ( Vin – 3.3V ) * 300mA + Vin * 2.5mA
445mW = Vin * 300mA – 3.3 * 300mA + Vin * 2.5mA
445mW = Vin * 300mA – 990mW + Vin * 2.5mA
1435mW = Vin * 302.5mA
Vin(max) = 4.74v
Therefore, a 3.3V application at 300mA of output
current can accept a maximum input voltage of 4.74V
in a SOT-25 package.
Fixed Output Regulator Application
Ultra Low Noise Fixed Voltage Application
Includes a 470uF capacitor for low noise operation and
shows EN connected to IN for an application where
enable/shutdown is not required. Cout= 2.2uF
minimum.
Low Noise Fixed Voltage Application
An example of a low noise configuration where Cbypass
is not required. Cout= 1uF minimum
Reference Voltage Output Application
An example of reference voltage (1.23V) as the output
voltage when adjustable pin connect to output.
