oConexant’s broadband communications portfolio includes a comprehensive
.csuite of semiconductor solutions that enable the digital home and
information network. Conexant’s Single-Chip IC DBS Set-top box (STB)
System Solution features all the major subsystems required to implement
Uthe core system and decoder electronics of a DBS interactive TV STB.
t4This includes an MPEG-2 A/V decoder (Dolby Digital audio is optional),
transport processor, a 32-bit RISC CPU, a 2D graphics accelerator, TV
eencoder, QPSK demodulator, channel 3/4 RF modulator, a video/graphics
edisplay compositing controller and a set of peripheral I/O ports for set-top
hbox front and back panel connectors. For a complete system hardware
design, the only additional components required are a tuner, modem
Scodec, audio DAC, SDRAM and flash memory ICs. This high level of
taintegration delivers the low-cost system bill-of-materials sought after
by mainstream digital DBS multichannel TV operators.
aAn advanced interactive set-top receiver will include sophisticated
.Dmiddleware to run downloadable applications using a high-speed return
channel. Example applications include Advanced EPGs, online games,
wshopping, and interactive polling. The ARM920 CPU in the CX24152/5
offers up to 224 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS at a 200MHz clock speed. This CPU
wplatform represents a major advance in capability for the low cost STB
w omcategory and will enable complex, MIPS hungry, feature rich middleware
.cplatforms such as MHP to be adopted by broadcasters for low cost
USTBs. The advanced CPU platform delivers performance that can be
t4deployed by STB manufacturers in a variety of ways including improved
eeinteractive application loading and EPG scrolling performance, hardware
Shfeature differentiation via multimedia host signal processing and scalability
tato Linux based software platforms via MMU hardware support. Return
achannel can be supported by an interface to a host-controlled V.92 modem
