The Future of Analog IC Technology
DESCRIPTION
The MP1469 is a high-f requency, synchronous,
rectified, st ep-down, switch-mode converter
with internal power MOSFETs. It o ffers a very
compact solution to ach ieve a 1.5A continuou s
output curre nt over a wide input supply range,
with excellent load and line regulation. The
MP1469 ha s synchronous-mode operation for
higher efficiency over the output current-load
range.
Current-mode operation provides fast transien t
response and eases loop stabilization.
Protection features include
over-current
protection and thermal shutdown.
The MP1469 requires a minimal number of
readily-available, standard,
external
components and is available in a sp ace-saving
6-pin TSOT23 package.

Thermal Shutdown
Thermal shutdown prevents the
chip from
operating at exceedingly high temperatures.
When the silicon d ie temperature exceeds
150°C, it shuts down the whole chip. When the
temperature falls belo w its lower threshold
(typically 130°C) the chip is enabled again.
Floating Driver and Bootstrap Charging
An external bootstrap capacitor powers the
floating power MOSFET driver. This floating
driver has its own UVLO protection, with a
rising threshold of 2.2V and a hysteresis of
150mV. VIN regulates the bootstrap capacitor
voltage internally through D1, M1, R4, C4, L1
and C2 (Figure 3). If (VIN-VSW) exceeds 5V,U2
will regulate M1 to maintain a 5V BST voltage
across C4.

Startup and Shutdown Circuit
If both V IN and EN e xceed their appropriat e
thresholds, the chip starts. The refer ence block
starts fir st, generating stable refer ence voltage
and currents, and then the internal regulator is
enabled. The regulator provides a stable supply
for the remaining circuits.
Three event s can shut down the chip: EN low,
VIN low, and thermal shutdown. In the shutdown
procedure starts by initially blocking t
he
signaling path to avoid any fault triggering. Th e
COMP volta ge and the internal su pply rail are
then pulled down. The floating driver is not
subject to this shutdown command.
AAM Operation
The MP1469 has AAM (Advanced
Asynchronous Modulation) power save mode
for light load. The AAM voltage is set at 0.5V
internally. Under the heavy load condition, the
VCOMP is higher than V AAM. When clock goes
high, the high-side po wer MOSF ET turns o n
and remains on until V ILsense reache s the value
set by the COMP voltage. The internal clock
resets ever y time when V COMP is higher than
VAAM.
Under the light load condition, th e value of
VCOMP is low. When V COMP is less th an VAAM and
VFB is le ss than V REF, V COMP ramp s up until it
exceeds V AAM, during this time, t he internal
clock is b locked, thus t he MP1469 skips some
pulses for PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation)
mode and achieves the light load power save.

When the load current is light, the inductor peak
current is set internally which is a bout 340mA
for V IN=12V, V OUT=3.3V, and L=6.5 μH.The
curve of inductor peak current vs. inductor is
shown in Figure 5.
